We help people in Hartlepool find affordable homes to rent and live.

How do I apply for a home?

It’s simple! All you need to do is complete our VIP Tenant Application Form. By doing this, you can let us know things like which areas you would like to live in, how many bedrooms you need, along with any budget you may have in mind. Once we have received your application form, we will match you to all of the available homes to rent in Hartlepool that meet your own requirements, saving you time from trawling the internet!

If you’ve already completed this form, thank you for choosing us to find your next home… you’re already off to a great start!

Your Storm Lettings journey starts here.

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We give you the peace of mind to know that you can stay in your home long term (all our landlords are committed to long term rentals).

I’ve seen a home I want to rent. What do I do next?

That’s brilliant. You should contact us immediately. Our homes are in high demand and are often snapped up quickly, so if you want to proceed further make sure you speak to a member of the team as soon as possible.

If you haven’t already booked a call with our property specialists, make sure you complete your VIP Tenant Application Form, and you’ll receive an email with a link inviting you to book a call with us. We can then arrange a property viewing together.

After viewing one of our homes with us, a member of the team will contact you for feedback. If you decide to go ahead, we will then send out a Tenancy Application Form for you to complete.

Please don’t worry if the home you view doesn’t end up being the right fit for you, our property matching specialist will keep trying until we’ve found you the perfect home.

What makes us different to other letting agents?… Our fantastic team are here to give you an amazing service, one that you will not find elsewhere.

Can I decorate or make changes to the property?

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We make it easy for you to turn your house into your own home, and we also give tenant’s incentives and rewards for keeping their home in tip-top condition.

We encourage our tenants to make their house their home, however we kindly ask our tenants to request permission when wanting to decorate or make changes to the property. We recommend receiving this permission in writing.

Who is responsible for repairs?

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We promise to respond to your repair and maintenance requests in a timely manner!

The landlord is responsible for maintaining the property in a good state of repair. They will either take care of this directly or do so via our own in-house maintenance service.

You can report repairs via our very easy-to-use Tenant Portal. If you’re already a Storm Lettings tenant, we have a dedicated tenant area available for you, that makes communicating with us as easy and stress free as possible. (If you don’t have logins for this portal already, please contact us and we can send you all the details).

In the case of an emergency, you will be provided with the details of our maintenance department and 24-hour emergency helpline numbers upon moving in.

What if I accidentally cause damage to the property?

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We give tenant’s incentives and rewards for keeping their home in tip-top condition.

If you do accidentally damage something, please don’t worry – accidents happen.

The important thing to do is let a member of the Storm Lettings team know as soon as possible by reporting it via very easy-to-use Tenant Portal. If you’re already a Storm Lettings tenant, we have a dedicated tenant area available for you, that makes communicating with us as easy and stress free as possible. (If you don’t have logins for this portal already, please contact us and we can send you all the details).

If you accidentally damage the property, you will be expected to cover the cost of putting it right.

Don’t try to ignore or hide damage because it could get worse, and it will only come out of your deposit at the end of the tenancy.

Do your properties accept pets?

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We make it easy for you to turn your house into your own home.

In many cases, yes, although this is dependent on the specific property & landlord. Please get in touch to discuss the property you are interested in.

Why do I need to be referenced?

Understandably, our landlords need to be sure that their tenant won’t have any problems paying the rent on a monthly basis and that the tenant will take good care of their property

What does referencing involve?

Referencing is nothing to worry about. Tenants applying to rent with us need to give details of their employer, income, their previous address, and some bank account details. These details will be checked to ensure the tenants are able to commit to monthly rental payments.

Do I need to show ID?

As part of our referencing process and in order to satisfy the ‘Right to Rent’ legislation, we will need to check certain ID and confirm a tenant is who they say they are. We will require a proof of residency (such as a recent utility or council tax bill) and proof of ID (passport and driving licence) for all individual proposed tenants.

What if there are problems with my reference?

What makes us different to other letting agents?…We understand everyone has a unique financial situation.

In some circumstances, a tenant may not be approved immediately via referencing. This is not uncommon so do not stress, there are still options for tenants in this position. With the landlords agreement, the tenant could pay the rent for the full term up front, or seek out a guarantor.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

If you want to reserve the property, we will ask you to pay a £100 holding deposit. This will form part of your full deposit which is due. Deposit amounts can vary but it will usually be equivalent to one month’s rent. If you are not in a position to pay a full deposit, please speak to a member of the team and we will be able to let you know what other options are available.

How is my deposit held? How will it be returned when my tenancy ends?

Your deposit will be held in a government approved deposit scheme. At the end of your tenancy, the deposit can be released as soon as the agreement is reached, in line with government regulations. For more information, please refer to your ‘Tenancy Agreement’ or go to https://www.thedisputeservice.co.uk

How do I pay my rent?

What makes us different to other letting agents?… We give tenants incentives and rewards for timely rental payments.

You will be asked to pay your first month’s rent no later than 1 week before your key collection date. This is to ensure the rent payment has cleared before you move in. We will then either set up a direct debit so that your rent comes out automatically each month, saving you time and money, or arrange to set up any direct payments from Universal Credit or Housing Benefit.

What if I can't pay my rent?

It is always your responsibility to pay your rent, but we understand that circumstances can change. The most important thing is not to let arrears pile up until they’re unmanageable. Let us know as soon as possible if this happens, remember we are here to help. And please don’t forget, you can get insured against sickness and unemployment to keep yourself protected.

Are council tax & utilities included in my rent?

No, all costs shown on our adverts reflect only the rental cost, per calendar month.

What happens to the personal information I supply to you?

Any personal information you supply to us will be treated confidentially and held in compliance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). On signing the application form you authorise us to share this information with the landlord, so that we can gain approval for the tenancy. You can view our Privacy Notice here.
